ADRIVUYO Uganda's environmental approach creates opportunities while protecting ecosystems through our "Green Jobs" initiative developing youth-led enterprises in recycling, organic farming, fuel-efficient cookstoves, and ecotourism; community-based natural resource management that recognizes local communities as the best environmental stewards when given rights and incentives; climate resilience building through smart agriculture and early warning systems; and training environmental rights defenders to monitor regulations and advocate for stronger protections.
In the Nakivubo wetland system, ADRIVUYO facilitated a community-based restoration approach that combined participatory mapping, alternative livelihood development, community monitors, and school environmental education. Three years later, 70% of the targeted area has been restored, flooding decreased by 50% in adjacent communities, water quality improved, and sustainable harvesting now provides regulated income—demonstrating that environmental protection can succeed when communities lead the way, supported by programs that honor traditional ecological knowledge while addressing immediate livelihood needs.
